If the short-circuited display is normal, it means that your sensor is normally open switch output.

The switch quantity has only two states: on and off. If there is oil in the case but the sensor still does not output, it means that the sensor is broken.

Do you have a two-wire sensor? If it is a two-wire system, string a small light bulb (5-24v) to see if the light bulb can be lit, it is certainly broken (in the case of oil).
